Visit Britain

In Year 5/6 we begin our curriculum for the autumn term with a theme relating to the United Kingdom and British Isles. Children will be finding out about the physical and human features of the country, and exploring why visitors from overseas might come to Britain. Alongside this, in English lessons we will be exploring persuasive texts. Some of the key objectives we hope to cover include:

• Identify the audience and purpose before writing, and adapt accordingly
• Select appropriate grammar and vocabulary to change or enhance meaning
• describe and understand key aspects of physical geography, including: rivers, mountains
• describe and understand key aspects of human geography, including: land use, economic activity
• use maps, atlases, globes and digital/computer mapping to locate countries and describe features studied
