Week beginning 29th February – 4th March 2016

Dear Parent/Carers
To tie in with World book day, our school will be holding a Book Week to celebrate reading for pleasure and we hope everyone will join in the fun! Year 3/4 classes and Rainbow class are going to be working with local author Gareth Baker on the Wednesday and all classes will be involved in storytelling sessions on the Friday. There will be lots of other activities, competitions etc. for all pupils and we wanted to give you advanced notice of three of them.

On Thursday 3rd March 2016, on World Book Day, we are inviting everyone to dress up as a book character. Take some time with your children over half term to browse their book collection and then together unleash your creativity and come up with some fabulous ideas to make the day go with a swing! There are lots of tips online for easy, cheap costumes so you don’t need to go to any expense.  Let your imaginations run wild!

There will also be a number of parent sessions run throughout the day and early evening to inform parents about the re-launch of Bug Club, the exciting online reading resource for pupils of all ages, Rainbow class to year 6. Staff will also be on hand to offer advice and information to parents about the best ways of supporting children’s reading practice at home, whether they are just starting on their reading journey or learning ways to respond to the text by developing their reading comprehension skills. So put the date in your diary/planner.

We are also running a competition called ”Extreme Reading.” We are asking pupils to think of a different, exciting, fun and SAFE place they can enjoy reading. They then share their idea with you and you take a photograph of them reading their book, tablet or kindle in their ‘extreme’ place. If they are shy and don’t want to be see in the photo they could be in disguise! Print out the picture, write the pupils name and class on the back and hand it to Miss Hoare during Book Week - week beginning 29th February 2016.
